The Day That I Realized I Wanted To Be An Author
In Kindergarten I had always loved writing but it wasn't until about mid February, in my 8th grade year. My history teacher was the person who held and hosted all of the Leadership activities, and our leadership class was holding our annual Poetry slam. My teacher was very persistent in everyone participating but of course it was optional, we all made a booklet with a writing work of our own, (or copied and credited). I decided to make my own and I thought of it based off of something that had happened to me in the past. I put so much effort into it and enjoyed writing it. Honestly, I hadn't noticed how much I loved writing until this project, it made me feel happy. My teacher always knew the right thing to say and knew how to boost someone's confidence and I still remember the day she told me how wonderful it was. So i read it out loud at the poetry slam. Thinking nothing of it, just proud of myself. Anyways, the day of our 8th grade promotion they were handing out plaques with golden eagles on them as awards for achievements they received. When my teacher went up on stage and quoted my poem my stomach dropped and my heart raced. I had gotten an award for my work, excellence in literature. That day I looked at the crowd of parents and students and I realized, THIS is what I want to do, that's what I want to do with my life. To this day I have written many works and published them online, and every positive piece of criticism i get from anyone who reads, I always think of that day... So a huge thank you to my teacher! Ms. Yasemsky i will never forget that day for as long as i live. |
Why I Decided To Join Leadership
I first heard about leadership when I was in 5th grade, 2015 I believe. I had just enrolled in the new school and was fascinated with everything. At first I didn't have many friends, so I was very shy and didn't know many people. I learned that middle schoolers got to join leadership, which was a group of students who planned and hosted events and fundraisers, it was a chance to meet new people I thought it'd be cool. When I finally made it to seventh grade I joined the leadership club and suddenly EVERYONE knew my name. I met knew people and made close friends. I planned dances and even hosted a fundraiser for an ASL program at a bowling alley. I totally opened up more and loved what I do. High school came along and I was given another opportunity to join the class, and so far I'm having a great time and I cant wait for more..
